Oh shit, why why why did you need to say that? Stiles, that was really dumb. Completely stupid. Idiotic. His mind is racing and he can’t catch his breath. He’s just told Derek Hale, the Alpha that has threatened to rip his throat out, to punch him in the face, that he loves him. That wasn’t supposed to slip out, and Scott is across the room with Isaac and he knows they’ve heard, too.

“I…” He begins and Derek is just looking at him, and Stiles can’t indicate what that expression is. He was sure Derek only had a few until now, because now there’s a million things there, crashing across Derek’s features like they’re fighting about how he should feel.

Scott’s mouth is gaping and Isaac doesn’t even look surprised. Derek’s expression smooths out, something like a smile tugs at the corners of his mouth and he kneels down to where Stiles is sitting. Stiles is sure he’s about to be hit and just accepts it, stares at him.

Derek’s hand reaches out, thumb strokes softly across his cheekbone. Stiles feels this… thing. He’s struck with it. Something turning his body hot and cold at the same time and he leans into it, into the hand. Derek smiles, nice and sweet, it getting to his eyes. Stiles’ heart kick drums in his chest and Derek’s fingers glide over his cheek, trace one side of his jaw. They move away, but come back, thumb running over Stiles’ bottom lip just because it can.

Stiles is about to start sputtering out words, doesn’t even know what he’s going to say, when Derek just stands back up and walks back over to where he previously was, like Stiles had said nothing to begin with. Scott is still wide-eyed, mouth open and Stiles thinks he probably looks the same. Derek walks into the other room, more swag than before - which Stiles didn’t even know was possible - and he swears he can still feel Derek’s hand on him.

“Told you,” Isaac says sort of openly to Scott, jerking his head in Stiles’ direction while he plays his turn in the card game he’s winning, “Claimed.”
