So You Think You Can Dance? Sterek AU: In which classical ballet dancer Derek and self-taught street hip-hop dancer Stiles meet on a televised dancing competition.

Derek used to partner with his sister Laura in a traditional ballet troupe until an injury ended Laura’s dancing career. Now Derek is looking for a way to recreate himself in the dancing scene. Stiles, meanwhile, decides to audition for the show on a drunken dare from his friend Scott. He never thought that he’d actually get on it!

Derek dislikes Stiles blasé attitude (“This is serious Stiles! You can’t just throw yourself into a new routine without knowing what you’re doing. Do you want to break something? If you do, just tell me. I’d be happy to break it for you and get it over with.”), and Stiles thinks Derek needs to chill out and loosen up (“It’s dancing, Derek. D-A-N-C-I-N-G. It’s supposed to be fun. This isn’t rocket science. You listen to music and you move your limbs. That’s it.”).

Tension between them comes to a head when they are paired together for a routine on the show. All the anger, frustration, worry, humor, and pressure ignites in a passionate dance. Which then leads to passion off the dance floor as well.

#I am having serious feelings about this #about Stiles in sweatpants and a tshirt that’s just small enough on him that it rides up as he moves around the studio #and when he’s stressed he takes his music and he finds himself a space and just dances until he feels better #even if it’s the middle of the night #and where he doesn’t look like he’d be very graceful#when he starts dancing it’s a whole other side to him #there’s a playful sort of joy in his movements and a beautiful chaos to his routines #and even though Stiles is frustrating as hell and so very opposite to Derek #when he’s dancing sometimes Derek finds himself staring #and he can’t look away

#and derek moves in tight controlled movements #carefully calculated and calibrated #precise #while stiles just flies #he’s all loose limbs and quick feet and he moves like a hurricane #and derek’s the built one from years in the studio#but when he gets up behind stiles and positions his body to help him hold a classic frame he can feel it #the strength in stiles’ body that’s coiled tight #ready to burst
